Running. I hear something hit the ground. I turn around and see a baton bounce in slow motion. Focusing on the chaos, I did not see the runner fly past me. Spectators point towards the runner who dropped the baton. I look away from the baton to see the runner too far gone to call his name or was it she? I turn to see the baton make its final bounce before resting where it dropped. Everything happening so fast, it felt like slow motion. I run towards the baton. The silent crowd begins to cheer. Feeling the might of a second wind, I turn, baton gripped tightly in my hand. I run flanked on both sides by faces flashing by. To my right, the first image I see is the face of a child waving and smiling.
